We left Mariposa on August 7th with the goal of getting as far as possible on the first day. After 12 hours on the road I learned a few things:
- Traveling in a Motorhome towing a jeep is a lot slower than in a car. No matter how long the iPhone says it will take to get there you should add about 1/3 to that time.
- 12 hours is too long to drive for one day!
- Yes, I can drive 12 hours in a day!
Driving through Yosemite National Park over Tioga pass was slow but the scenery was worth it.
At the end of the first day of driving we made it to the Nevada/Utah border and stayed over in a small Café/Motel/RV Park on Hwy 70 getting ready for another day of driving.
The second day was a bit shorter but made it across Utah and in to Colorado. There was a curious stretch of Hwy 70 in Utah where both Matt and I would have sworn that we were going downhill by looking at the terrain. The only problem was the Motorhome’s engine was saying something different and so was the river that seemed to be flowing uphill next to the highway.
All and all, another long drive but this time enjoying Utah’s countryside. The first stop in Colorado “James M Robb Colorado River State Park – Fruita Section”. More about that park, the campground and Colorado National Monument in the next post!
Glad you made it around the ess turn getting into Yosemite. I was a little worried about that….
Not a problem ? at 46′ glad they didn’t have a Ranger out there with a tape measure!
