Welcome 2017! Time to join the hoards of well meaning folks out there making those all important New Year’s resolutions.
Got immediately to work on one of those resolutions:
Become a Better Blogger
As a new to the blogging world I sometimes struggle in the creation and management of this blog. Blogging has definitely been embraced wholeheartedly by the younger generations so I was very lucky to be able to spend some time getting advice from one of Matt’s friends that was visiting this week. Taylor claims to be a novice blogger but one look at taylor’s blog and I knew she would be a great resource! You may have noticed a whole new look and format for this blog and I have Taylor to thank for pointing me in the right direction and giving very helpful advice and ideas.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – Aristotle
It was also great to have Alex (Taylor’s boyfriend and Matt’s best friend since high school) visit. Alex is a chef and a wonderful cook who shared his culinary talents with us while he was here. The kids took this opportunity to visit Yosemite and braved the cold snow and rain to enjoy a day in the park.
So back to those New Year Resolutions…….
Learn Spanish
Considering the fact that Jerry and I lead groups down to Baja every Spring this resolution would seem to be a no-brainer, yet it is one that I have made in previous years that I have not yet accomplished (except for a few random words here and there). Time to pull out that Rosetta Stone program and get to work. Hopefully at least some basic Spanish before we head down to Loreto in late February.
Start Painting Again
A couple of years ago I took watercolor lessons and really enjoyed exercising that part of my brain and learning that I actually could be artistic. Although I brought along much of my painting supplies with me in the motorhome I haven’t actually pulled them out and started painting again. Time to pull out those paints and try my hand at recording some of the awesome places I am visiting in watercolor.
Travel Slower – Get to know the people and the places
One bit of advice that many full-time RV’er’s all seem to agree on is “slow down”. Set a slow and steady pace, take time to stop and enjoy the wonderful places along the way. My favorite part of the last four months on the road was the time spent in Moab. Spending three weeks in one place gave me a opportunity to explore the hidden non-touristy areas and to meet and make friends with some of the great people there. My goal for 2017 is to slow down and spend more time in each of the awesome places throughout the country. After all, I am retired and should be in no hurry.
Here is to 2017 – wishing everyone the best in fulfilling your own resolutions!
The new blog looks great!
Love the new look. I also have struggled all these years with the goal of learning Spanish. You’d think after growing up in San Diego and marrying a Mexican I’d have accomplished that! But, no. So, you go girl! I’m enjoying your travels and wish you all the best. Happy New Year.
Love the new look, the food shot, and limiting yourself to 3 resolutions !!! For inspiration, try Duolingo.com for short daily Spanish lessons. (I’ve enjoyed the Norwegian version.) And give yourself a huge pat on the back for what you accomplished last year!
