It has been over 8 years since I was last in the Moab area and there have certainly been some changes but the incredible beauty of this area remains the same. The other aspect of Moab that I enjoy is the active community. Mountain biking is a huge sport here in Moab and the number of trails and bike shops is incredible. There is also road biking, hiking, river rafting, sightseeing and more recently stand up paddle boarding. So it is really no surprise that I plan on hanging around here for three weeks to take in all of it!
In the last 8 years Moab has gotten much bigger than I remember it. And the number of visitors in town is huge, with the hot summers and cold winters; spring and fall are the busy seasons here. The weather is perfect, sunny with highs in the 70’s during the day and lows in the 40’s and 50’s at night.
Campgrounds seem to be full so having reservations was a good advance plan.
The ACT Campground is along the highway (most of the campgrounds seem to be) with full hookups and a very nice community kitchen.
The owner is very pleasant and helpful and I am looking forward to staying here for my time in Moab.
First stop after arriving in town was the Visitor Center.
Filled with useful information and staff knowledgeable in the area, I stocked up on brochures and purchased books and maps for hiking, biking and off-roading.
Then off to the local rec center, which includes a lap pool to purchase a monthly membership – only $35 and I can swim here for the next three weeks! The pool does have some interesting hours for lap swimming but being retired I can work around those. It is nice to have a pool available only a couple of miles from the campground.
With so much open space finding a hike that allowed Cory to come along was easy.
Just a few miles from town the Negro Bill Canyon Trail to Morning Glory Bridge was a good choice for a first hike.
About 4 miles through a canyon including several stream crossings and some rock scrambling to a beautiful 243 foot natural bridge – the sixth-longest natural rock span in the United States.
Cory was a great hiker forging the stream crossings, sand and rock scrambling just happy to be along for the hike.
Lots more to do here – looking forward to exploring the area.
That dog is so photogenic.
Looks like a beautiful area, glad you and Corey are enjoying it!
It looks like you are enjoying your road trip adventure. I am runnibg for CSPRA secretary so I guess I have to keep working. Transformation is still proceeding.
