Thanks to a friend from Arizona I am currently reading Steinbeck’s novel “Travels with Charley in Search of America”.
Steinbeck writes of his travels with his dog Charley (a French Poodle) in a camper type vehicle across America. It is a very interesting and entertaining read and I do recommend it!
So in honor of Steinbeck and Charley I want to share with readers my “Travels with Cory”. For those of you that have met my dog much of what I write will probably bring a smile to your face (okay, I can hear you laughing now!). He certainly is a little dog with a very big attitude (more laughter!). Some have said he has more of a cat personality than a dog’s and that may explain some of his un-doglike behaviors.
Cory has adjusted pretty well to living on the road (probably even better than his owner).
There are a few things that cause him some stress (thunder, the rattle bumps alongside the road and the like) and in order to help with this he now has a “Thunder Shirt” and I have to say (although skeptical at first) that this seemingly unimpressive “shirt” has definitely worked well to calm him in the above situations.
With Matt gone (back in Penn for college) my pace can slow down a bit and I am starting to feel like Steinbeck when he wrote: “And I felt at last that my journey was started. I think I hadn’t really believed in it before.” Up until now it has felt more like a vacation than a new lifestyle as I make the transition it is good to have Cory for company. I will write more about traveling with Cory as my adventures unfold. For now, just know that while he is not Lassie (running for help when Timmy is in trouble) he makes for a good companion on the road!
That’s my granddog. Thought you might have a picture of him on the stand up paddle board..
Couldn’t figure how to get the stand up paddle photo without getting my phone wet! He did seem to do well on the board 🙂
